The Estonian Genome Project, University of Tartu inviting people to celebrate the Day of DNA, on April 25 in Tartu Kaubamaja. Same time of last year on the Day of DNA became the public gene donors the Director of University of Tartu prof. Alar Karis and Mayor of Tartu Urmas Kruuse.
This Saturday planed to celebrate the International Day of DNA with public workshops for all citizens in Tartu Central Department Store at 11-14 o’clock.
To get the theme more interesting to the people the Estonian Genome Project will work in cooperation with the science-centre AHHAA. The guidance of AHHA teachers everybody will have the opportunity to construct DNA-chains from gummy bears to get to know more about gene structure. The model what you made can everybody eat or take it at home.
The team of EGP will share information and distributing literature concerning the Estonian Genome Project. It will be a good opportunity to get answers to questions.
The Estonian Genome Project is a research institute of the University of Tartu. The aim of the EGP is to create a database of health, genealogical and genome data of Estonia’s population. The database will make it possible for researchers both in Estonia and outside to look for links between genes, environmental factors and common diseases (cancer, diabetes, depression, cardio-vascular diseases, etc). The results of this research are likely to lead to new discoveries in genomics and epidemiology, and will be instrumental in improving of the health care.
Right now the database of the Estonian Genome Project consist data of almost 35 000 Estonian.
To joining to the Estonian Genome Project, people should contact with Estonian Genome Project to make an appointment or to register themselves in the Kaubamaja on this Saturday.
A GENEDONOR extends a hand to the future!
